Each ingredient and the evidence
L-Arginine HCl
An amino acid the body uses to make nitric oxide, the signal that relaxes blood vessel walls. A meta-analysis of trials found modest blood pressure reductions, but at 4 to 24 grams a day.
L-arginine research on PubMedL-Arginine AKG
Arginine bound to alpha-ketoglutarate, popular in sports formulas. It adds to the arginine supply; there is little blood pressure research on this form specifically.
Arginine AKG research on PubMedL-Citrulline DL-Malate
The kidneys convert citrulline into arginine, and it raises blood arginine more reliably than arginine itself. Blood pressure studies usually used 3 to 6 grams a day.
L-citrulline research on PubMedResearch doses for context
| Ingredient | In BloodPril | Typical research dose |
|---|---|---|
| L-arginine (both forms) | Part of 500 mg blend | 4 to 24 g a day |
| L-citrulline | Part of 500 mg blend | 3 to 6 g a day |
Our take: the ingredient choice is logical, but even 2 capsules (1,000 mg) is a fraction of research doses. Expect gentle support at most.
